Few days ago I learned that our very own Facebook has now a Billion Members, that's a huge milestone for any Social networking site, and some said Facebook is dying!
Anyways the journey of a Billion members hasn't been so smooth for Facebook, it has constantly evolved over the years to keep the freshness intact, but this evolution has brought some revolutionary features to Facebook and as a result a lot of changes in the appearance and user functions, also raising some concerns about privacy.
Now all users are not acquainted with these new features and changes, and often find themselves in trouble with some unwanted new features.
How to get rid of these unwanted features? How to make Facebook behave the way you want it to?
The following tips will tell you how to customize your Facebook experience. Read on and you will know ways to get freedom from these unwanted features.
Control Your Photo Tags
If you don't want anyone to tag you in a photo without your permission then do this :
Go to Privacy Settings > Timeline and Tagging > Click on "Edit Settings" > and the following pop-up window will appear :
Now watch the highlighted option, if it's "Off", make it "On". Click Done.
The next time anyone tags you in his/her photo, you will receive a notification like this screenshot :
Click on the notification and you will redirected to your "Timeline Review" page :
And you can see a notification as shown in the above screen shot, now if you want to be tagged in the photo then simply click the "tick" symbol in the right corner, else if you do not want the tag then click the "X" symbol.
Control Your Facebook E-mail Notifications
Facebook not only shows you notification when you are online but also sends them to your e-mail(associated with your FB account). Those notifications include everything from Birthdays to App notification. Most of us don't like our Inbox to be flooded with such notifications and therefore need not want FB to mail those to us. So here's what you got to do:
Go to Account Settings > Notifications. You will have the following view on screen :
Now Click on the Email Frequency checkbox (highlighted by yellow) and you are done. You won't get those annoying notification mails.
Control Who Messages you On Facebook
Sometimes you find (mostly girls ;)) messages from people who are neither in your friend list nor you know them. Such messages can be annoying if the person keeps messaging you regularly, here's how you can control who messages you in facebook :
Go to Privacy Settings. You will have the following options on the page :
Select the Who can send you Facebook messages? option, if unknown people are able to message you then the default option will be Everyone, change it to Friends if you want only your friends to message you, else select Friends of Friends if you want them to be able to message you.
Restrict Your Posts and Profile Info
Facebook Lists provide a great medium to personalize and customize what you see and share on Facebook. One of such Lists is the Restricted List.
This list gives you an easy and private way to limit what you share with someone—without blocking or unfriending them. They won't see the list name or be told they're listed.
Login into Facebook and Go to Facebook Lists :

You will see all your Facebook lists. Click Restricted (highlighted in yellow) :

All you have to is Add Friends (not so good friends!) to this list (highlighted in yellow) and they can now view only the posts and profile info that you make Public, which means the people you add to this list won't be able to see your posts and updates even if your posts have privacy set as Friends.
Control the Photos and Links You Share
Share Photos and Links only with the people/friends you want to rather than all your friends. Click Share on the photo or link you want to share, a pop-up will appear :
Click on the drop down privacy option (red arrow) on the right corner of the pop-up and select the privacy you want and Click Share Photo, if you want to share it with selected friends use Custom. You can also choose a List to share.
So these are some of the features I could think of, if you find any other unwanted feature on Facebook you want to get rid of, or you want any help in Privacy settings or Account settings, you can drop your queries in the comment box(there's a Facebook comments Box) and I will quickly include ways to deal with those features in this post.
Awaiting your comments...
