I'm a Windows 7 lover (though I'm a big supporter Of Windows 8) and therefore I keep coming with these simple tweaks to make your Win 7 experience even better. I hope all of you had a good time with the Windows 8 Metro UI for Windows 7. This time I'll explain a simple method to use Windows 8 desktop themes in Windows 7.
I found these awesome panoramic view themes while browsing themes on the Windows Theme Gallery but to my utter disappointment I found that these themes support Windows 8 and Windows RT only. That's because Windows 8 themes have the .deskthemepack extension whereas the themes supported by Windows 7 have .themepack extension. But the good news is that even if you are not planning to switch to Windows 8, you can still use these themes on your Windows 7!
Here's how to do it -
1.Go to the Windows Theme Gallery and choose the Panoramic View theme of your choice.(I use Wave panoramic and Cityscape panoramic)
2. Download it. Now the downloaded file will have a .deskthemepack extension. Simply Rename the file with a .rar(WinRAR) or .zip(WinZip) or .7z(7zip) extension and convert it to an archive format file. For example - If the file name was cityscape.deskthemepack, it should be cityscape.rar/zip/.7z now.
3. Now extract the archive file you created by renaming the theme file. Keep all the extracted desktop backgrounds (.jpg) files in a separate folder.
4. Now right click on your Desktop and got to Personalize. Then select Desktop Background (highlighted with red rectangle)
5. Go to Picture Location, Browse to the folder you stored the Desktop Backgrounds (Step 3). Select All (option in right top corner) and Save Changes.
6. You will now see a window as shown in the above screenshot. Just click Save theme(highlighted in red rectangle) and you're done!
7. What's more is that you can share that theme with your friends also -
Just Right click on on your saved theme and select Save theme for sharing option. And you can save your theme in any folder with as a .themepack file. Now share the file with your friends.
So now you're using all Windows 8 themes even without installing Windows 8! J
