This Red colour is indeed a warning, moreover if you find this red warning in your PC's system drive (generally C: Drive) you need to give more space to your Dear hard drive so that you don't encounter any glitches while running. So what to do? Delete/Uninstall some program Files? Certainly not.
What You need to do is free up the temporary or unutilized space in your system, the sources of which are :
1. Temp Folder - The Temp folder as the name suggests is a temporary storage location of some files necessary for functioning of the OS. This folder may well contain around 5GB or more data, but not all of these 5GB data are utilized by the OS.
2. Windows.Old Folder - These Folder contains the program files from the previous installation of the windows if you have migrated from Win XP to Win 7, Win Vista to Win 7(or even Win 7 to Win 8). This Folder may well run into tens of gigabytes of data. Since it is a system folder it is not advised(or possible) to delete it manually.(Ignore if you have already deleted this folder)
Now the tool by which you can safely delete the unutilized from these two Folders is called the Disk CleanUp.
Here's how you can free up space using the Disk CleanUp -
1. Go to Start > Search bar > Type " %windir%\system32\cleanmgr.exe " and Enter to open the Disk CleanUp.
You can also search for "Disk CleanUp"
2. Next you will be prompted to select the Drive for cleanUp :
Select the System Drive (Drive C: in most cases) and click OK. And the Disk CleanUp will calculate how much space can be freed from that Drive.
3. Now the following window will appear :
Just click on Clean up system files and a second window will appear :
4. In the following window check (or tick) the Previous Windows Installation(s) to delete
the Windows.Old folder. (This option won't appear if you have already deleted the Windows.Old folder)
Similarly to delete the Temp folder go down to the Temporary Files(not the Temporary Internet Files shown in this screenshot) option and check it. Now click OK.
The Disk CleanUp will free up the unneccesary and temporary storage space in your Drive.
So that was simple and swift. Of course there are third party softwares like CCleaner which are quite useful for this purpose, but the Disk CleanUp is the simplest safest way to handle the System Drive space.
