My Facebook Newsfeed was flooded with these updates. #Sachin Tendulkar was certainly trending on Facebook and Twitter. I boasted of being a Great Tendulkar Fan, but I didn't update anything and I didn't tweet anything. Not because I didn't care, not because I was not at all sad. But may be because a status update wasn't enough to express my disappointment, may be because a tweet wasn't enough to explain my frustration, may be because these social networks aren't enough for me to let the world know what that man named Sachin Tendulkar meant to me.

I looked at my Facebook profile picture, I realized I learnt that software named Photoshop so that I could super impose my face on Sachin's photo, the only reason I started my Blog is to write about Sachin Tendulkar, the only reason I joined Twitter is to read @sachin_rt's tweets.

                              

I still remember those days when my Dad would take an early leave from office and my Mom would close her kitchen, just to watch this little guy run through a bowing attack.
Every time Sachin crossed 50, I would run back home bunking classes just to make sure I'm a witness to every surreal century he scored. Every time I played with cricket cards I would make sure to get hold of the Sachin Tendulkar card and my victory was assured. I remember the delirium everytime he scored a century, I remember being agonisingly close to heart attacks whenever he got out on 99. From the very first time I saw this guy I knew he's the guy to be, a guy tailor made to be everybody's Idol.


I always wanted Sachin to be an ageless wonder, I always wanted him to play like a God, The God Of Cricket. Have you heard any one else compared with God? Your Answer will be NO! Because there's no one and there will be no one like Sachin Tendulkar. Because no human being carries the burden of a billion hopes every time he goes for work. May be that's why he's compared with God. But finally age caught up on him, he failed to perform, he crumbled on pressure, he was as vulnerable as ever. And then came those advices - "he should get on to the front foot", "he should strengthen his defence", "he should attack more" and some said - "his time is up, he should retire".

It was tough to endure all this, criticism and failure to deliver had crippled us both, I use to silently advise Sachin - "Please retire dear Sachin, I can't see these hypocrites criticise you, can't see anyone question your commitment, can't see you bowing down to rookies, can't see my idol struggle". But my conscience always retorted - "Fight back Sachin, you've every right to play, you deserve to be there more than anyone else, you're the best the world of cricket could ever boast of".

                               

What makes Sachin Tendulkar so special? Why can't he just retire like every one else? Sachin Tendulkar for India is not just any man, any cricketer, he's a phenomenon, a phenomenon beyond science and beyond logic. He's an emotion capable of inflicting joy on a billion faces. You'll console me by saying retirement was always inevitable, the critics might be enjoying a victory, but it's the biggest defeat of a true Fan. His absence will create an irreplaceable void in the game of Cricket. Cricket without Sachin Tendulkar will be never like Cricket again.

I feel proud that I belong to a generation that could witness the exploits of a true hero called Sachin Tendulkar. You are and you will be my Idol forever...
